Sheep are hilarious and underrated. They’re inquisitive, yet indifferent, with clear social dynamics.
They can be a joy to watch through the seasons, if not slightly intimidating when encountering a huge, protective new mother ewe, cluster of rams and of course a flock of hopeful sheep following you around feeding time.
Volume one of… er, plenty, looking at the sheepist, sheeping sheep ever to sheep-up a public footpath. Or at least on Access Land… Sheep.
1. Bloomin’ wit’t’ sheep

Can be found throughout August in increasing states of purple-induced alarm.
2. A hop, skip and a sheep

Often occurs when a young’un isn’t paying attention and discovers, horrified, that everyone has left without him.
3. Extravagant and fancy sheep

One of 30 pedigree blacknose valais, curly, curly delights. This one disappointingly ornery though, unusual for the breed.
4. Springy brand new sheep

Freshly born and all gangly trying out her new legs. Bounding towards us to greet – I assume – the first people she’d ever seen.
5. Mama’s boy needy sheep

I’m sure mum’s asking for help with this one.
6. Sheep stance double sheep

A full dance routine did not follow.
7. A small ball of sheep

Snuggly cuddly.
8. Poser of a sheep

This went on for some time. Curious or attention-seeker? We’ll never know…
9. Pair of horns pretending to be sheep

How this gent got through his days remained a great mystery.
10. Not a sheep at all but a mountain goat

The higher we go, the more likely sheep will spontaneously metamorphose into, well, goats. Or possibly reindeer, depending on the hill in question.
Note, results may vary.
